Voted one of Hispanic Magazine’s “Top 100 Latino Comics,” “Common Sense Mamita" Lydia Nicole was born and raised in New York’s Spanish Harlem. An award-winning actress, Ms. Nicole received her PhD in acting, comedy and production from a career that spans over 30 years guest-starring in numerous television shows and films including the Oscar-nominated film, Stand and Deliver with Edward James Olmos. Lydia transitioned to comedy, she shortly began producing and hosting her own solo show at the famous Comedy Store, in Hollywood, CA. While hosting, and developing her routine she co- created The Hot & Spicy Mamitas, an all Latina comedy show that performed before sold-out audiences nationwide. The Mamitas also recorded a hit comedy CD produced by Uproar Records. Seven years ago, Lydia was invited by Bel Hernandez, editor of Latin Heat Magazine/TV Channel, to have her "Common Sense Mamita" Vlog videos that help actors,comedians and filmmakers navigate their careers, run exclusively on the site, as a weekly "Edutainment Vlog." One of the busiest women in Hollywood, As filmmaker Robert Townsend’s, producing partner, Lydia co produced Townsend’s latest film Making The Five Heartbeats, a documentary based on Townsend’s film The Five Heartbeats, which was nominated for NACCP Image Award for best documentary. Some of the other projects she has also produced with Townsend include the romantic comedy, Playin’ For Love, In The Hive, Why We Laugh, and the first Latino dramatic webseries Los Americans, starring Esai Morales and Lupe Ontiveros. Not one to start put, Lydia, a master storyteller, writer and member of NALIP- (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) prepares to take her autobiographical solo show, A Rose Grows in Spanish Harlem, back on the road this summer. This show tells the dysfunctional, yet triumphant tale of Lydia’s childhood as seen through her portrayal of over 25 characters. Lydia stays motivated by her mantra “I am using what’s in my hands,” and she currently resides in Los Angeles with her daughter Alexia. In her spare time she plays Scrabble cooks and grows fresh herbs and flowers.
