Data collection for my dissertation titled 'An evaluation on the effectiveness of environmental enrichment on the behaviour of captive blue and yellow macaws (Ara ararauna)'.I studied the behaviour of two (1:1:0) blue and yellow macaws housed at Shepreth Wildlife Park in relation to the presence and absence of three different enrichment devices.Data was collected via scan sampling for 30 minutes for different observational periods. Analysis focused on:- Interaction with each enrichment item- Enclosure use- Foraging behaviour- Social behaviour- Climbing behaviour- Nesting behaviourThese data were compared using one-way and two-way anova tests using SPSS.

During my Zoology course, I had the opportunity to carry out fieldwork at the Makerere Field Research Station at Kibale National Park (tropical forest) and the Queen Elizabeth National Park (savanna) in Uganda. Within the tropical forest, we collected data on bird community structures, population data on butterflies, data for comparisons of herbivores, a model caterpillar experiment to test predation and aposematic techniques, behaviour of two species of Colobus monkeys, vegetation structure data and primate transect data. During this time, we also studied and experienced firsthand the following topics via local speakers, lecturers, tours and fieldwork: - Tropical forest conservation- Desert conservation - Tropical savanna conservation- Human impacts on biodiversity & conservation
