I've been in the workforce for about fours years now after graduating from California State University Long Beach with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting. I briefly worked at a sushi franchising company right after college as an assistant to the accounting manager at first then as an accounts receivable specialist while I was waiting for the Los Angeles County Metro's Entry Level Training Program (ELTP). The program was a two year program intended for newly graduates to gain work experience. I was in the program for about two years, assigned in the general ledger accounting department under the supervision of the GL manager who later became the Director of Financial Reporting. I performed account analyses for several asset, expense, and revenue accounts, bank reconciliations, and prepared monthly and adjusting journal entries. I also participated in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) by preparing the statistical section and compiling the report from the first draft up to the final print. Even though I worked mainly in general ledger, I also assisted other departments such as accounts payable, mainly with accruing sales taxes and payment verification, accounts receivable, and project accounting. As I was nearing the end of the program, I was offered a job as a GL and cost accountant at a manufacturing company in the aerospace industry where I currently work at. My main duties include calculating cost of goods sold and manufactured, closing work orders, preparing month-end journal entries, bank reconciliations, and account analyses.
