As a Registered Nurse in the only pediatric hematology/oncology clinic in Southern Nevada, I was responsible for assessing patients’ current state of health. This included interpretation of lab results, compliance with prescribed medications, side effects of chemotherapy, and psychosocial impact of life-threatening illness. I accessed central venous catheters, initiated peripheral IVs, and infused a wide variety of chemotherapeutic agents and adjunct medications. I provided continuous monitoring for potentially life-threatening drug side effects, and intervened when these occurred. I assisted physicians performing lumbar punctures and bone marrow biopsies, as well as radiation therapy. I administered moderate-sedation drugs and provided monitoring. I served as committee chair for the Rapid Response Team (RRT) committee, conducting meetings, setting goals and assigning tasks to ensure forward progress toward those goals. My primary focus was writing a complete training program for all levels serving on the RRT, and conducting that training.

I supervised 10-12 registered nurses with varying degrees of experience on a busy med-surg unit of 36 beds. I was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit including scheduling, assignment of patients, and staff-patient relations. Part of this unit is in transition to an observation area, necessitating close communication with administrators and other supervisors to ensure timely and appropriate throughput of patients from the Emergency Department. I served as a member of the Code Blue Committee, and was on a task force within the Discharge Planning Committee, in which we standardized the discharge process and education for all patients and the healthcare team.

As a nurse case manager, I acted as a liaison between patients, their families and health care personnel to ensure efficient and prompt health care service. I worked with all members of the healthcare team, formulating care plans, including evaluation of results. I facilitated access to community health care resources and provided emotional support and advice to patients and their families during the patient's hospital stay. I was responsible for the prompt and effective provision of health care services for each of my patients, ensuring through communication with primary care provider clinics the continuation of that care.

I worked primarily with infants with developmental concerns due to premature birth and gestational complications including patients with respiratory insufficiency, cardiac abnormalities and sepsis. I conducted ongoing assessments and developed a plan of care individualized for the patient and performed therapeutic nursing interventions as established by the plan of care. I floated to Labor and Delivery and PostPartum areas when the need arose, as well as attended high-risk deliveries in the OR. Provided individualized parent education customized to the family. Responsible for discharge planning and education, assisting physicians in determining readiness for discharge and downgrade of status based on overall evaluation of individual patient needs. I facilitated timely and appropriate discharges from the hospital and identified patients needing community resources upon discharge, and facilitated their connection with the appropriate resource in order to promote quality continuity of care and safety for the patient. Maintained established policies and procedures, safety, and infection control standards.

I managed the care of patients that required moderate to complex assessments,interventions, and levels of nursing vigilance. I worked with critically ill patients with life-threateningmedical conditions, such as respiratory failure, cardiac arrest and sepsis. I cared for patients followingneurological, thoracic and abdominal surgical procedures. I conducted ongoing assessments asdetermined by the patient's condition and the facility's policies, procedures, or protocols andreprioritized care accordingly. I performed therapeutic nursing interventions as established by individualized plan of care. I provided customized education to each patient/family. I documented patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention, and progress towards problem resolution. I initiated emergency resuscitative measures according to resuscitation protocols. I provided bereavement support to families with exceptional capacity for empathy and compassion.

Served as registered nurse caring for patients with life-threatening illnesses, including acute congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, drug overdose, trauma, respiratory failure, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Promoted health and supported patients and families in coping with illness. Skilled in bedside monitoring, EKG interpretation. Exhibited motivation and dedication by providing the highest quality of care to each patient. Managed all phases of care cycle for critically ill patients. Held additional responsibility as part-time charge nurse for overseeing patient care, staff assignments, emergency response/transport and management of patient/family crises. Contributed to organizational growth initiatives as part-time preceptor, instructing new and student nurses in crisis intervention, medication administration and resuscitation. Built solid, trusting relationships with staff and patient families, generating positive PR through extra efforts in care treatment and one-on-one communications.
