As part of a Merck-sponsored research program, I am developing high-dimensional flow cytometry-based assays to study metabolic dysfunction in immune cells of patients with autoimmune conditions.

I implemented innovative strategies in exploratory process development to optimize TCR-T cells in cancer therapy.

I worked with Dr Olivia Majer to employ innovative methods to study the differential regulation of endosomal Toll-like receptors in innate immune cells: nano-scale flow cytometry, structured-illumination microscopy, and cross-linking proteomics. As the first hire of a new lab, I played a major role in the supervision and mentorship of junior colleagues.

I held an independent research fellowship in the lab of Prof Shimon Sakaguchi, to investigate the role of PI3K-delta signaling in peripheral regulatory T cell induction and the maintenance of intestinal immune tolerance.I also taught the Immunology module in the Chemistry and Biology Combined Major Program at the International College, Osaka University.

I tutored children aged 11 and 13 in English and Science, in weekly sessions over Skype video chat, according to the British school syllabus.

As a PhD student under Dr Klaus Okkenhaug, I studied the effects of PI-3-kinase inhibition on the immune response to cancer, following earlier work from the lab indicating increased tumour resistance. I investigated the functional differences caused by PI3Kδ inactivation in key immune cell subsets involved in tumour immunity, both in vitro and in vivo, using a range of syngeneic tumour models. I also evaluated PI3Kδ inhibition as a therapeutic strategy, particularly in combination with existing cancer immunotherapies, such as checkpoint blockades and tumour vaccines.

I undertook an 18-week research project under Professor David Baltimore at the Division of Biology, California Institute of Technology. The project was a component of my Part II (final year) studies at Oxford. I investigated the phenotype and molecular bases of leukaemogenesis driven by overexpression of miR-125b; techniques included flow cytometry, histology and genetic analyses. I also screened an additional panel of 58 micro-RNAs, for effects on proliferation, survival, differentiation and activation in cells of the immune system.

I held an internship for 3 weeks under Professor John Junwen Wang at the Department of Biochemistry, Hong Kong University. I participated in the construction of a comprehensive database of SNPs linked to human disease, performing data curation on a large body of relevant literature.

I held an internship for 8 weeks under Professor Julio Licinio at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, the Australian National University. I carried out gene expression analysis of inflammatory markers in various parts of the mouse brain, using RT-PCR.

I held an internship for 7 weeks under Dr Chen Yeng at the Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), University of Science Malaysia. I carried out preliminary analysis of the protein content of cholangiocarcinoma cell lines by 2-D electrophoresis, to determine the effect of liver fluke infection on tumour development.

I taught English and History to students aged 15 and 17, with a large range of academic and language abilities.
