Academic affairs administrator with 30 years’ experience in leading teaching and learning units and broad-scale initiatives at Research I and comprehensive universities, and at community and technical colleges. My record in instructional design, integrating computer technologies, extends continuously from the early 1980s, when I worked in the San Francisco Bay Area as a technical trainer and instructional designer in the corporate sector.I completed five years of doctoral coursework and research in the fields of cultural psychology and higher education. My current work is based on a theoretical and practical understanding of college student learning processes and the organizational and cultural environments in which it occurs.What motivates me is the goal of reawakening and transforming what people do and how they think about learning. I am most interested in serving the professional and instructional development goals of faculty because they in turn make that transformation possible in the lives of their many thousands of students.What excites me is the current moment of transformation in which higher ed is truly poised to do, in entirely new ways, what it does better than any other organized institution: discover and share new knowledge.
