Founder And Editor-In-ChiefDundee Medical Journalism Society Sep 2020 - Jun 2023University Of DundeeThe founder of Dundee Medical Journalism society and Chief Editor or our semesterly publication ‘The Gannochy’. Our society aims to encourage and develop writing within the medical school through a series of writing masterclasses, an interactive online blog and also working with our writers, editors and talented graphic designers from Dundee's world famous art school to create our semesterly publication. The inspiration to start the society came from a personal love of writing and the realisation that medical journalism, reflection and writing are such a valuable skills that are not explicitly taught to medical students. Writing well gives the power to educate, express opinion, critically analyse and ultimately, change the course of our profession. Good journalism can guide medicine and indicate best future practice and regulation; It has the power to mould the culture within our profession. In an age of fake news, healthcare professionals must be able to critically assess information and effectively communicate health topics to the general public: What we say and how we say it is is more important than ever. Writing as a medical student is a great way to refine written communication skills. Whether this be, a fun reflection of the medical student experience, commenting on global politics or an academic summary of current research. It offers the opportunity to get away from textbooks and explore topics and literature in line with personal interests. It is extremely valuable in the process of reflection both as a practitioner and also for life and wellbeing in general. -
