PH1 specializes in Passive House Engineering, Design, Analysis and Certification services. We provide structural and mechanical engineering services as well as energy modelling, with the goal of becoming a leading technical resource in the development of houses and small buildings.Located in Toronto, our mission is to take an active role in the development of Passive House techniques and solutions that are native to the region through involvement in PH projects at all levels. We advise and consult with both commercial and residential clients to make the best choices in achieving practical building envelope, structural and mechanical designs that meet both the needs of the project and the stringent energy efficiency criteria of the Passive House standard.Our structural design work has included steel, welding, wood, concrete, masonry, glass, custom manufacturing and architectural design as well. We have also provided mechanical system designs in both residential and commercial projects, including both air and hydronic system designs, and some electrical system design. Our work has recently taken us into the entertainment industry as well, in which we provided engineering design and fabrication services for a magician's table.Our approach is to take the long view to the built environment, always watching for and seeking out opportunities for future generations of building users, whether ourselves, or our communities. Unlike consumer goods, and despite our fast paced modern lives, buildings persist for the long term. Just as many smaller objects should never have been made, buildings can present major burdens to owners and society. We now understand that both the conception and operation of buildings can be real benefits to the planet, rather than a cost. Our work in this field remains before us.

Initiated, executed and managed all aspects of an institutional building construction project of 8240 sq ft. Worked with clients to perform design development, hired all consultants, liased directly with all government offices and acquired all permits, hired, trained as needed, directed and managed all contractors and workers in addition to having arranged and executed financing, insurance, safety programs, and client reporting. Designed fire protection water systems and HVAC damper installation configurations. Acted as the primary decision maker in every aspect of project execution.

Project Owner, managed the costing, bidding, production, quality control and final delivery of small to $15M projects - larger projects in co-ordination with colleagues. I was intimately involved with the co-ordination and therefore risk management and quality assurance of machined, sheet-metal, injection molded and welded parts and assemblies. I am knowledgeable in bearing and shaft clearances and installation, design and cost reduction for industrial hardware, fastener technology, materials and manufacturing process selection for machine components, industrial controls, sensors, motors, linear actuators, computers and electronics.
