About Lyndsey Wray
30+ years' hands-on experience in helping SMEs optimise business processes, develop work-winning strategies and bid for growth:I left school aged 16 in 1988 and worked, through a YTS, for several local small businesses, including a print shop, estate agents, solicitors and a timber yard among others.I first learned about tendering in the mid ’90s through a marketing role at an office furniture company and most of the marcomms positions I held from then on included bid writing and management. In 2004, I moved to the other side of the procurement process, issuing tenders and contracts for a government agency.As a contractor for most of my early career, I have worked in almost every sector and industry across the UK for SMEs and large corporations.In 2006, I started my own micro business, offering marketing, communications and tendering services and, in late 2010, I refined this to offer purely tendering support specifically to UK SMEs. In September 2018, hot on the heels of being named one of the UK Small Biz 100, I launched UK Bid Writer. While still providing traditional bid writing services, UK Bid Writer was primarily aimed at helping UK SMEs understand and prepare for the huge changes digitisation continues to bring to procurement, through expert consultancy, professional speaking and bespoke training.And then…. Well, we all know what happened in 2020.In 2021, I moved across the country, in late 2022 I closed down UK Bid Writer and took some time out of the bid world and re-learn what life - and business - looks like from outside of a bid room. Now I’m ready for the next challenge.The procurement world is changing fast, with AI and the automation of data being a driving force behind improvements in procurement processes across the world, a brand-new UK government and a significantly changed business landscape that’s shifting rapidly to sustainability and green industries as core UK offerings. For this next stage of my career, I want to fully utilise all the skills I’ve developed over my decades of bid experience. I’m ready, and I want to help you get ready too.

I established UK Bid Writer to work exclusively with UK SMEs, helping them tender for and win public and private sector contracts. Through UK Bid Writer, I provided bid writing services, training and consultancy to help my customers understand how it all works, get ‘tender ready’, and find and win contracts to help their businesses grow and thrive.In its early days, the business also incorporated various freelance consultant and interim marketing and communications management positions, often with an element of bid management. In 2011 I streamlined the business to focus purely on bid writing, training and consultancy, leading to consistent top ten percent scores for both single supplier contracts and frameworks for my customers. In 2018 UK Bid Writer was awarded a place on in the UK Small Business 100. In 2019, I developed a unique ‘direct practice’, learning-by-doing coaching method, offering telephone and online mentoring and support.While UK Bid Writer is not currently taking on new clients, I still help out my long-term past clients from time to time. I’ve also kept my back catalogue of resources available online for free.
