Former CeoNepad Business Foundation Sep 2006 - Jun 2018Johannesburg, South AfricaThe NEPAD Business Foundation started off with a voluntary group of CEOs from large corporations who were called by former SA President Thabo Mbeki, to bring private sector to engage in the implementation and contribute to the development of Africa, under the auspices of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).I was seconded by HP SA to the NBF as the CEO to help establish the organisation and landed up staying at the NBF for 11 years - growing it from 2 staff members to a strong, professional and efficient team of 20 people. The NBF is a unique not-for-profit organisation that plays a neutral facilitation and implementation role that convenes public and private sectors, communities and civil society, to work together to implement complex cross border projects in Africa. These projects ranged across various sectors : agriculture, infrastructure, water & sanitation, mining, corporate governance and the establishment of a private sector platform across the SADC region. -
Government And Public Affairs ManagerHewlett Packard South Africa Oct 2003 - Sep 2007Johannesburg Area, South AfricaParticipated and provided policy input and support to HP Global CEO at President Thabo Mbeki's ICT Advisory Council for 4 years. My role was to foster close working relationships between HP SA and the various levels of government. As the South African Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes were being developed, I chaired the American Chamber of Commerce's BBBEE Committee to provide input from ICT multinational companies on the development of the BEE ICT Charter. From an HP perspective, we worked in partnership with the SA Department of Trade & Industry to develop the concept and basis of the BEE Equity Equivalents, which allowed multinational companies to contribute towards BEE in a meaningful manner.HP was a major sponsor of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The HP i-community programme was initiated as a legacy project of the WSSD and we launched 2 e-inclusion projects - one in India and the other in Mogalakwena, Limpopo Province in South Africa. I was part of the team that implemented the 4 year i-community project in Limpopo, working closely with local government, communities and youth to define a new model of long-term sustainable development in rural areas.
