Perform the duties of a medical lab technician responsible for phlebotomy procedures, specimen collection, testing and annotation of medical records. Review medical records of heath care workers for history of immunizations, laboratory results, and health care worker safety screening. Provide customer services to internal and external customers within the military medical community.Supervise new reservists and provide instruction proper laboratory procedures and practices.2 weeks a year I spend in Bremerton Naval Hospital, working in the lab as a generalist.

Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work surfaces clean and orderly; Receives specimens for testing and assigns accession number to specimen and requisition slip; Collects blood samples by venipuncture or capillary on ages birth to 21 years; prepares specimen for analysis by diluting, filtrating, centrifuging, or staining; calibrates equipment; orders, receives and organizes supplies; performs quality control checks on equipment by comparing readings from quality control samples with know values to determine if equipment is functioning within acceptable limits; performs QC before resulting patient results; performs a variety of microbiological, chemical, immunological, serological and microscopic tests; evaluates tests for accuracy; records test data and results; faxes or flags doctors with test results; enters test results into computer; prepares a monthly report on all tests performed; emails the state with all LEAD levels; Weighs out media and chemicals and prepares reagents, stains, chemical solutions, and other media according to written instructions; Calibration every 6 months or sooner as needed; perform Competency on lab and nursing staff on waived tests; perform proficiency testing and review results; if proficiency testing has unacceptable results will investigate and document corrective action; maintain and update procedure manual; Serves as technical resource by participating in staff training; answering questions of other professionals; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Proficiency testing with API.
