Casual/relief work at various Early Childhood Education-Care settings as, and when, vacancies become available through the McArthur network. Working collaboratively with children, staff members, and parents so as to provide the best possible teaching-learning environment for young children to develop. Provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere which encourages young children to be imaginative, creative, exploratory, self-confident, and caring of others.Be attentive to the needs and interests of young children attending. Interact with children,staff and parents in a respectful manner so as to model appropriate behaviour. Provide thoughtful feedback to interested parties,participate in reflective practice as necessary, assist with planning ideas when opportunities present, and to be enthusiastic and optimistic in challenging times.

My role has involved assisting individuals faced with "life-limiting" illnesses, and family members who support and care for them, to maintain some resemblance of normality at a time of significant challenge and upheaval. I have been appreciative of the feedback I have received confirming that the involvement of volunteers, such as myself, continues to be of great assistance both to the organization and to the people who seek its services. My participation as volunteer has been on a casual basis. SEPC endeavours to match the interests and attributes of volunteers with the interests and needs of clients, in the hope of providing a meaningful experience for those involved. Other matters have necessarily limited my involvement since 2012, including a return to tertiary study.

During course Placements: Worked, co-cooperatively, with young children (0-5), and their educators, in different early childhood settings: Long Day Care; Kindergarten. Engaged, enthusiastically, with the families of the young children with whom I was privileged to work. Together we supported the learning and development of each young child who attended a particular setting. A strong sense of wellbeing was important for all participants to maintain!

I was involved with an Afghan Women's Support Group. Activities were based around cooking and sharing a meal. The intention was to: provide support to these women, help them to improve their conversational English, and to give them an insight into the "Australian way of life"​ through the eyes of someone (me) who has experienced a safe life in Australia. This social setting was safe and welcoming for all involved. On one occasion I had the opportunity to accompany a member of the group: a wife and mother, to the Immigration Department. Identification papers for some family members had been misplaced, and this was causing considerable hardship. A full day spent in the city of Melbourne resulted in this woman's concerns being satisfactorily addressed. Changes have taken place since that time including: completion of further tertiary study; participation in casual employment as early childhood teacher.

I have highly-developed interpersonal and communication skills due, in part, to my involvement in a number of different work environments, and subsequent "employee" roles including the following: - Election Official for both AEC and VEC - Manager of a school uniform shop - Hospitality and customer service delivery - Co-ordinator of a pre-schooler's play program centre, and leader of various activities within the program - (Voluntary) Committee member, including holding the position of secretary: (primary school) mothers club, (secodary school) parents and friends association, netball and life-saving clubs.All provided for contact with an interesting and diverse assortment of individuals.

As a Kilbreda staff member: Liaised with internal and external stake-holders on a regular basis: over the telephone, in person and in writing, and contributed to school and staff newsletters from time-to-time. Uniform Shop Management: Achievements:- Catered successfully to the uniform needs of over a thousand secondary school students for a period of almost seven years.-Maintained accurate and up-to-date records for second-hand clothing items offered for sale on consignment, in addition to new items.-Maintained a safe and welcoming environment for students, families, staff, and others-Stored and displayed items for purchase so as to complement the size and lay-out of floor-space.- Developed rapport with others, including regular and potential suppliers.- Assisted with the implementation of new uniform- Negotiated with School Administration and School Maintenance Department to obtain increased floor space and other improvements.- Balanced the needs and requirements of internal stakeholders with the demands and expectations of external stakeholders.- Maintained clarity of thought in order to deal with the unexpected.
