I am currently a full-time Recreational Therapy Student at Winston-Salem State University. I attend classes such as professional preparation, advanced therapeutic recreation, and program planning. Studying as a student in the Therapeutic Recreation Profession has been a very long journey for me. Recreational therapy is a systematic process that uses recreation and leisure to address the needs of individuals with illnesses or disabling conditions. Client intervention is purposeful and unique, while activities used for intervention are specifically targeted to each patient. As a future Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, I plan to advocate for recreational therapy and stand by the ethics and values of the profession, while promoting client well-being and encouraging satisfying leisure lifestyles.
