For the past thirty years I have worked in education in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. My roles have included classroom teacher, program manager, remote school principal, assistant principal, and educational advisor.I consider myself fortunate to have worked with a diverse range of children and adults in a variety of contexts from disadvantaged program schools, district offices, curriculum branches, intensive English units or centres and extremely remote schools.All of these experiences have led to a focus on the professional learning of the paraprofessionals who support the learning of students across the country. It was a conviction about the importance of paraprofessionals to student learning that drove my work as the program manager of the team that produced ‘Talking Namba’ and ‘APPLLS’ (Assisting Paraprofessional Professional Learning in Literacy Support). I am very proud to have been a part of that work.I am also very proud that I have been able to return to my roots in the classroom in 2014 and 15 here in Western Australia where I have been able to experience the life of the modern classroom teacher and the instant and continuous feedback provided by my students.
