PhD student in Plant Breeding and Plant GeneticsMy main research project involved breeding for geosmin (earthy flavor) in table beet as well as determining the source of the flavor in beet. • Experience in HSPME GC-MS protocol, refractometer and tissue culturing of beets• Familiarity with taste test protocols & table beet breedingIn addition I managed the lab, greenhouse and field components of the breeding program.• Involved with all breeding phases, data collection and care of beet, carrot and onion lines produced by lab. • Coordinated weekly schedules for day to day management of undergraduate and graduate students in program• Practice in selection methodology for biennial crops

• Involved with outreach and networking for the UW-Madison patent and licensing non-profit organization. • Have working knowledge of patent pipeline as it pertains to UW-Madison researchers.

Outdoor Educator 2011-2012 (Fall/Winter/Spring)Instructor in outdoor lessons including forest and animal studies, canoeing, skiing, and general ecology of northern Minnesota for middle school age children. Took on more leadership in organizing weekend groups fall of 2012 as well as running teacher/instructor meetings at beginning of week. In addition to instructing, responsibilities included schedule management, staff organization and meal preparation.

Organized and led canoe and backpack trips in Minnesota and Canada. Responsible for facilitating communication, managing group conflict, and developing leadership skills in adolescent girls. Planned trip routes, meals, educational and enrichment activities. Solo guide for majority of trips ranging 1 week to 6 weeks in length.

Lab work with pigment extraction, caring of both field and greenhouse plants.
