Environmental Senior Specialist
CurrentResponsible for monitoring compliance with permitted development authorized under the North Carolina Coastal Area Management Act and the Dredge & Fill Laws, and the implementation of enforcement activities as needed. Enforcement actions involving complex restoration plans to restore impacted natural resources and the assessment of civil penalties. Compliance monitoring activities involve ensuring that the regulated communities comply with Coastal Resources Commission's (CRC) rules, laws and regulations through onsite monitoring and aerial surveillance. Work requires a clear understanding of the state regulations and applicable general statutes for coastal development, the ability to delineate coastal wetlands and identify wetland plant species, and the ability to identify non-coastal wetlands. Position provides oversight and technical assistance to local communities, educating the general public, contractors, and elected officials on CRC rules and the importance of protecting coastal resources.
