Represented Firmware team on multiple produce development core teams. Led team that provided performance support to help craft industry leading positions in Surveillance, Enterprise, PC, and Consumer Electronics market segments for SATA disk drives. Provided firmware support for 80 GB/platter program among most successful drive programs in Seagate History. Directed team in sustaining legacy drive programs, addressing issues quickly and using 8D process to drive learnings throughout firmware infrastructure. Planned work using Scaled Agile Framework. Led and participated in numerous FMEA and 8D teams.

To facilitate entry of SATA drives into Enterprise applications, worked with customers to understand needs and provide excellent service. Drove doubling of transfer rate for small block sequential transfer performance. Collaborated with Servo team to improve random access performance by 10-20%. Participated in initial implementation of queued command handling in SATA drives. Provided technical support for field related failures. Led team that addressed Firmware failures in test lab.

Incorporated new features ratified by SATA standards committee. Took increasing role in PC Benchmark performance analysis and code optimization. Kept Seagate drive performance within 10% of competition in all PC benchmark categories. As Seagate planned to re-enter notebook segment of disk drive market, worked with Business Development team to meet with Taiwanese contract manufacturers and designers to understand their requirements. Collaborated with team members to achieve target results in highly competitive disk drive market.

Functioned as technical liaison to Business Development team to work with set top box manufacturers incorporating disk drives into DVR (Digital Video Recorder) application. Added command support that was tailored to specific needs of DVR market segment. Worked with standards committee representative to codify new DVR features in SATA drive standard.

Developed comprehensive test suite for DST (Drive Self Test) functionality. Worked to insure 100% functional coverage and extensive error recovery testing.

Worked on exploratory effort to create HP branded writeable CD drive and DVD drive. Analyzed numerous optical chip set vendors' solutions in order to make recommendations on which one to use in potential HP branded drive. Additionally, studied numerous 16-bit processors for best fit in future drive program.

Developed and maintained Interface code for ATAPI QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge) tape drives. Modified command handling for spec. compliance. Collaborated with test organization to solidify testing requirements and capabilities for initial release of new generation of ATAPI interface tape drives.

Developed firmware for combination QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge) tape / floppy disk drive in startup company, ComByte. Architected firmware for drive that was both tape and floppy disk capable. Implemented PID Servo algorithm that was used for both floppy disk and tape speed control. Created early look prototype firmware that demonstrated capability and enabled 2 rounds of venture funding.

Developed firmware for floppy based QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge) tape drive. Helped migrate code base from assembly to C programming language. Worked on data path code in conjunction with Electrical Engineering team to develop and test data and error recovery algorithms. Participated in prototyping efforts for first MR (Magneto Resistive) head-based drives. Provided coding support groundwork for over 10-fold increase in data storage capacity. Interfaced with Customer Support team to field customer issue escalations and drive them to resolution.

Provided support for DOS and Unix based backup program. Debugged numerous backup code application issues. Performed development work to incorporate data compression with STAC algorithm.
