My work was directed toward retention and stewardship of high-dollar annual donors (Society of Fellows) with a focus on travel that brings donors together for exclusive garden-study tours in several different destinations each year. I also write proposals and reports for major donors, conduct donor research, and work with volunteers to recruit new Fellows. I returned to work for this national organization dedicated to saving and sharing outstanding American gardens during my transition to living and working in Scottsdale/Phoenix and while the Conservancy was going through a change in leadership.

Supervised all aspects of fundraising for the New York State Office of the National Audubon Society with the primary focus on annual giving, foundation grants, and special events. • Worked closely with the Executive Director and the Development Committee to renew annual gifts from major donors and to identify and cultivate new major gift prospects;• Conducted foundation research and wrote LOI’s to develop new sources of grant support; supervised the Assistant Director of Development for Institutional Giving, who managed reporting and renewal requests;• Managed the planning and execution of two major fundraising events in New York City: the Women in Conservation Luncheon recognizing the winners of the National Audubon Society’s Rachel Carson Award, and the Keesee Award Luncheon, at which a conservation award and award for environmental writing are presented;• Partnered with the Director of Strategic Communications on a year-end appeal campaign with letters, email messaging, and social media; worked with Board members to lay the groundwork for stronger outreach to corporations; served as liaison to the Audubon Young Members (age 21-35); and served as a member of the senior management team.

Worked collaboratively with the President and Vice President for Development on a portfolio of strategic projects including:- Celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary, beginning with an award dinner and related cultivation events in Manhattan in December, 2014;- Planning and leading garden-study tours for the Society of Fellows in partnership with the tour program director and developing relationships with garden enthusiasts in the host community;- Supporting the activities of several board committees by updating policy documents, guiding the management of restricted funds and board-designated funds, assessing board needs and planning an orientation program for new board members; and laying the groundwork for a renewed planned giving program for the Conservancy;

Supervised all aspects of fundraising at the Conservancy with a primary focus on membership, including successful expansion and stewardship of the Society of Fellows which grew to provide over $1 million annually, and general membership, which featured discounted participation in the popular Open Days national garden visitation program. Provided fundraising assistance, including writing grant proposals, to five community-based gardens managed in partnership with the Conservancy. Supervised a staff of three.

Revitalized the development program of this nonpartisan bioethics research institute by engaging board members in major gifts fundraising. Guided the Development Committee through the silent phase of a $15 million comprehensive campaign (major gifts portion $10 million) supporting new public affairs capacity, with 40 percent of the goal raised by the Center’s 40th anniversary celebration in 2009.

White Plains, Ny - Pace Law School

Served as first development professional for this fast-growing international federation of clean water advocacy organizations based on the Riverkeeper model. Built a$2 million annual development program based on foundation grants, major gifts, special events, and membership.

Mount Kisco, Ny

Developed strategy, volunteer leadership, and printed materials for a $20 million capital and endowment campaign for this new foundation at a community hospital. Created the Phillips Lounsbery Society to encourage and recognize endowment gifts.

Garrison, Ny

Developed a variety of fundraising strategies to be implemented by the 100-member volunteer board of Outward Bound USA’s headquarters. Managed a $2-million Scale-Up campaign for a national public school reform program, and reached this goal within one year. Created a national planned giving program, centered around The Kurt Hahn Society, that was also used by OB wilderness schools and urban centers. Developed models for involving board members in funding scholarships for urban youth.

Directed annual giving for this national garden preservation organization. Recruited new individuals for an existing $1,000 donor club (Society of Fellows) and new $5,000 club (President’s Circle.) Researched foundation prospects and wrote grant proposals. Launched special events program.

Responsible for all aspects of development, finance and corporate business for this ground-breaking clean water advocacy organization. Inititated a special events program with the annual Shad Fest and hired staff to expand the events program. Directed membership program and created the first newsletter. Researched foundation prospects and wrote grant proposals. Prepared budgets, financial reports, board meeting agendas. Supervised work on trademark and related legal matters.

Greater New York City Area

Directed $1.5 million annual giving program for national environmental advocacy organization. Developed strategy, financial goals, and written materials for solicitation of individuals and family foundations by board members and program directors. Created and hired staff to implement a $1,000 donor club (Council of 1,000) offering exclusive information and events to donors. Supervised donor/prospect research, proposal writing and database management.

Savannah, Georgia Area

Participated in oceanographic sampling and laboratory analysis. Funded by Sea Grant, studied Georgia's shrimp fishery. Port sampler of recreational finfish. Designed Institute's newsletter; edited publications and proposals; created scientific illustrations. Wrote a column on coastal ecology for the local weekly newspaper, Georgia Gazette.
