Worked in healthcare for 25 years specialising in adult mental health specifically working with older adults living with dementia. Managed an NHS day hospital, worked in community settings, day care and hospitals. I have witnessed individuals at every stage of wellness. Better:Gen started with the idea that both health and wellness should be a basic right for everyone no matter their abilities and also that standards in healthcare training had to improve. For better care to be delivered better training has to be given. It’s not good enough to have individuals caring for those most in need with very little or no education or training. The days of advertising for care staff with no experience and only giving them mandatory training in half a day does not bode well for great care! Better:Gen aims to deliver highly innovative, realistic and fun training for health and social care in many different areas. We deliver training in different ways dependent on course.We recently used real time training using simulation and real life patient scenarios with as much interaction to enable the learner to question throughout. This can be aimed at care staff, senior school pupils, university students to raise awareness of what life in health and social care is really like. Can be used to assist in university interviews, to decide career choice or to develop practice. Similarly can be used to work through any care problem scenarios tailored to the customer needs.
