As a graduate student in Dr. Jinn's Lab I:-Planned, refined, and performed the necessary experiments for my Master’s thesis of "Functional Study of Two Glycine Rich Proteins under Abiotic Stress and during Development in Arabidopsis". - Used molecular cloning techniques to create transgenic overexpression, complementation, and GUS reporter lines in A. thaliana- Used confocal microscopy to successfully determined the sub-cellular localization of my proteins of interest in both tobacco and onion epidermal cells- Analyzed RNA and protein expression in response to various treatments and in transgenic lines using RT-PCR/qPCR and Western Blotting, respectively.My goal was to determine the proteins’ subcellular localization and tissue expression, as well as better understand their functions in response to various abiotic stresses. As sessile organisms, plants are at the mercy of their environment – they are unable to retreat in the face of unfavourable conditions, and as such are subject to a wide variety of environmental stresses. Thus, understanding abiotic stress response pathways are vital to dealing with the effects of changing temperatures on agricultural crop yields.

Volunteered in Dr. Daniel Ballhorn’ s lab for the summers of 2014 and 2015, working with his graduate student A. Godschalx. Experience included working with rhizobia, measuring cyanogenesis, and tripsin inhibitor assays.
