Senior environmental analyst on a project team consisting of DEP, CZM, University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Marine Program to evaluate complex estuarine environments including barrier beach limiting salt ponds, boat harbors, highly controlled embayments and open estuaries to create nutrient loading limitations estimates on Cape Cod and the Islands. The project is an innovative approach to valuating anthropogenic impacts on estuarine environments and developing nutrient estimates (total maximum daily loads-TMDL) to reduce those impacts and guide permit decisions and local planning. The basis of the work is a series of interconnected groundwater, surface water, estuarine, and chemical models to evaluate the habitat impacts in terrestrial and marine ecosystems reflecting present and build-out scenarios. The results of these models determine permit nutrient limits and future land use development potential. Additionally, alternative restoration and protective scenarios are evaluated through the models' balance of land use and development loading in the watershed, such as, sewer options, flood control manipulation, hydrographic connections and barrier beach management.

Responsible for managing a fast paced regional regulatory program wihich included citing, permitting, and operational compliance activities for solid waste facilities (landfills, compost, recycling, transfer and processing facilities); remediating historic dumps, evaluating state environmental reviews, facilitating clean energy project development, rehabilitating failed solid waste caps and participating in multi-media enforcement of combustion facilities. The job included responsibility for both administration and management of program and staff.

Project manager responsible for remediation and redevelopment of BRAC 1989 and 1991 base closures. Responsibilities included coordinating Commonwealth position with the designated local redevelopment authority in order to maximize federal cleanup requirements for redevelopment purposes. Additional challenges included cleanups associated with numerous bulk fuel handling/storage facilities, schools and daycares, pesticide contaminated housing and clearance of MEC. Responsible for communication to local, state, business and congressional officials, facilitate impasses between state and federal agency representatives, and provided opinions in areas of assessment/remediation.

Five-year assignment to develop a watershed program to restore water quality based on consensus projects developed by a team of federal, state and local experts. Served as team leader for the Blackstone River Watershed Team responsible for developing strategies to address environmental challenges and secured funding to address them. The Team built grass root capacities, developed local and regional priorities, and programmed resources within state and federal budgets to fund projects that enhanced local habitats. I worked cross-program to develop consensus among state agencies to fund watershed priorities by integrating projects goals and criteria as components of agency program plans and grant criteria that focused on the types of projects developed by the Team.

Exploration Geologist. Worked for a small firm focused on hydrocarbon extraction. Evaluated, recommended and oversaw plays in Wyoming and Texas. What fun, pretty much like a treasure hunt!
