Our team develops and maintains Europe PMC. As part of the open science community, we help scientists realise the potential of ‘big data’ in biology by enabling them to exploit complex information to make new discoveries. We develop tools to help researchers better access and mine information from life sciences articles, books, patents and clinical guidelines. In my role, I gather business requirements, run usability tests and analyse web analytics, work collaboratively with developers is to provide user experience design, and maintain the pattern library.

Documented user journeys, re-designed the registration process to create a unified experience for a wide variety of drivers to the experience. The Foundation’s U.S. Library Program granted computers, training, and technical support to an estimated 10,000 libraries across the country. I assisted in meeting this goal by leading the effort to design ultra-usable out-of-the-box experiences for the granted computers, as well as engaging how-to publications, web portals, and apps. My efforts to simplify the experience played an important part in helping librarians embrace the technology and helped lay the foundation for our nation's public libraries becoming the go-to place for public access computing. Our department's successes ultimately led other departments within the Foundation to seek our input and services.
