I served as VP & Deputy General Counsel of Hanesbrands, a leading global consumer products company with operations in 40+ countries and $7B in annual revenues. There, I led all legal aspects of supply chain, intellectual property, sales, marketing, real estate, procurement, and information technology (IT) and managed a team of two attorneys and six paralegals. From 2013-2019, I served as VP & Deputy General Counsel, Commercial.Highlights of these roles include:• Leading all legal aspects of key distribution deals to gain a retail footprint in two major APAC markets, enabling the opening of 800+ stores across China and Korea for the Champion brand.• Working cross-functionally to facilitate acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, integrations, and strategic investments;• Supervising due diligence for acquisitions of world-class brands, including Maidenform, Pacific Brands, and Champion Europe;• Developing and managing global legal framework for the sale, marketing, and licensing of branded apparel products;• Drafting and negotiating a range of commercial contracts, including product development, licensing, sponsorship, distribution, agency, co-promotion, vendor, and talent agreements;• On the COVID-19 front, collaborating with product development and other teams to launch new pandemic-related, medical device products and navigating the pandemic’s impact on retail, manufacturing, and distribution;• Restructuring and leading global intellectual property prosecution and portfolio management of patents, trademarks and copyrights (3500+ in the aggregate) and managing intellectual property litigation; and• Overseeing enhancements to a worldwide anticounterfeiting program, primarily in China.Note that I left Hanesbrands to serve as Chief Counsel – Consumer Products at Georgia-Pacific LLC in September 2012 and returned to the company in January 2013.

As an executive team member for Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products Division, I advised management on the development, marketing and sale of leading consumer products; antitrust and unfair trade practices; supply chain and vendor relationships; and an extensive intellectual property portfolio.I also drafted and negotiated strategic agreements for business operations, including supply, vendor, distribution, manufacturing, agency, promotional, and sponsorship agreements.

In 2006, Sara Lee Corporation spun off its apparel business as Hanesbrands, a stand-alone public company, and I served as Assistant General Counsel following the spinoff (2006-2010) and became Associate General Counsel in 2011.As Associate General Counsel, I served as the lead attorney for an unprecedented, 10-year marketing partnership with Walt Disney World, including wide-ranging apparel exclusivity, branding, and attraction sponsorships, and negotiated a long-term, $1 billion product development, sales, and licensing transaction.I also handled commercial agreements, FTC compliance reviews, and litigation case strategy, among other matters.

Sara Lee was a leading consumer products company with well-established food, beverage and apparel brands. There, I served as Corporate Counsel (2003- 2006) and Employment Counsel (2001-2003).Highlights of my work in these roles include:• Creating and conducting trainings for senior management on employment and immigration matters impacting 60,000 domestic and international employees in 40 countries;• Directing and managing litigation strategy and case resolution in federal and state courts;• Serving as lead counsel in federal and state administrative proceedings and audits, investigations, and compliance reviews (U.S. EEOC, OSHA and DOL); and • Reducing the company’s outside counsel spend by 60% in a two-year period.

As an Assistant Professor, I counseled and advised state and local government officials on employment law; taught employment law courses for elected officials, attorneys, and human resources professionals; and researched and published various articles and manuscripts on employment discrimination, wage & hour compliance, drug testing, workers’ compensation, FMLA, and workplace violence.
