More than two decades of experience leading and supporting Indigenous land stewardship initiatives, ecological monitoring, habitat restoration, invasive species management, biodiversity, climate change, waste, contaminated sites, and Indigenous environmental justice. I am fortunate to have worked with Indigenous relatives and non-Indigenous partners and allies from local to global scales on addressing the environmental crises.As a biracial woman of Indigenous and settler descent, born and raised in my father's community (Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory), and adopted into the Turtle Clan, I am grounded in my Kanien'kehá:ka culture, which shaped my relationship with my kin in the natural world. I pursued an education in the natural sciences and learned to appreciate the different worldviews and approaches that are required to solve the global environmental crises we are facing. Two Eyed seeing is crucial to securing meaningful and lasting solutions, as is an Indigenous-rights approach, and intergenerational dialogue. This means Indigenous Peoples being the leaders of our own land-stewardship approaches in our traditional territories, not just having a place at the table within western frameworks.I am pursuing my PhD at McGill in the Department of Anthropology. My doctoral research is on plastic pollution and colonialism, the impacts of plastics to Indigenous Peoples, and the Indigenous science and leadership addressing this global crisis. I am also a "Leadership for the Ecozoic" Fellow in Cohort 5, exploring the transformative change required for society to shift from the Anthropocene (human centered) into the Ecozoic (earth centered) Era. As a Policy Advisor with the Indigenous Leadership Initiative, my work focuses on supporting Indigenous land stewardship in Indigenous communities near urbanized areas, and in national and international biodiversity processes.I am passionate about being on the land, protecting biodiversity, fighting climate change, addressing the plastic pollution crisis, and Indigenous food sovereignty. I live in Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory with my family on our small farm, with our chickens, ducks, dairy goats, honeybee colonies, and food forest.
