Lynn has been working in rural development since 1997, initially in subsistence farming, community development, and adult education, and later in early childhood education and early literacy. A major passion of hers has been creating environments in which individuals are able to lead their own development.Lynn spent six years as the director of the Family Literacy Project (FLP), working with remote communities in southern Drakensberg. During that time, FLP's programs included early and adult literacy, the community's Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMC), a baby and young child home visiting program, community libraries, and adult savings clubs. Lynn led Wordworks' Every Word Counts (EWC) program (pregnancy to 5 years) for five years, training and supporting 35 ECD NGOs in three provinces to implement EWC. By combining participatory monitoring and evaluation, Lynn evaluated the Telling Stories of the KwaZulu-Natal programme at Africa! Ignite. She served as Education Programmes Manager from July 2019 to June 2021, reshaping the programme to improve early literacy outcomes. In July 2021, she established Lulamaphiko to provide early education and care for young children in rural areas of north KwaZulu-Natal.
