Working as an IT Technician working at The Dales school, which is a Special Education school, for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties. I am solely responsible for the maintenance, hardware support and general day to day running of the schools IT infrastructure.To date, I have replaced old desktops with new, installed a new server, which runs Windows Server 2012, patched in more network points around the school, catalogued the schools software library and created a new domain for the school to use, which runs on the new server.I am currently working on introducing Office 365 & Sharepoint at the School, hoping to complete the project by May 2016.My other responsibilities include- Network security, firewall and administration.- Desktop support & training.- Active Directory management, login profiles and group policy.- Network storage and backups- Apple product management, updating and maintaining iPads & Mac's (Account admin, documentation and application management)- Supplying and installing classroom and specialist technology (Touchscreens, tablets, sensory and SMART tools)- Inclusive TechnologyWorking in a school environment means sticking to deadlines, and working within short time scales to ensure classroom down time is minimal. And although I am the only IT technician here at the school, I still work within a fantastic team who, collectively, ensure the school maintains its 'Outstanding' standards.

At Harrogate Borough Council I worked as part of a large team delivering support across the Harrogate District. My main role was to provide remote and physical desktop support to our 1,500 users, with some hardware support too, on a first line basis. My role also included procurement for the council. I was responsible for sourcing and procuring the right equipment for our customers, and as such, trusted with large budgets.I have worked with various service desk call management systems, such as Sunrise and Assyst. Before the implementation of Assyst I became ITIL V2 certified, and topping up my knowledge by studying ITIL V3.I have been involved in various projects during my time there, including the implementation of a new finance system (Agresso), trialling and testing virtual machines and servers, working on in house databases and supporting the desktop applications for all areas of Harrogate Borough Council (Waste Management, Street lighting, Taxi Database, Leisure centre software, CCTV, Parks & Gardens, Finance, and support for the Harrogate International Centre)Outside of my normal role, I enjoyed attending meetings for the councils innovative change board - The Voice. We were involved at the early stages of projects and plans for the Council, and provided the project leaders with feedback from our colleagues. This was a refreshing change, and it helped me keep in touch with what was happening around the council. I was also a member of the Trade Union - Unison.This role gave me broad knowledge on 1st line technical support. I enjoyed this varying role, as it gave me the opportunity to broaden my customer service skills, whilst challenging me to further my knowledge in IT.
