In Dec 2010, Shirley was then nominated for “Photographer of the Year” through Raw:Artist (global independent arts organization, for artists, by artists)As a model, many photographers Ly has worked with, long behold whom later she would consider personal mentors in her own foundation as a photographer. Finding positivity in being a self-taught photographer, breaking “classic” photography rules came easily to her. Shirley’s keen-style for using surrounding environments involved, artificial lighting outdoors and unique colorization ability in post-production has set her apart from the bunch. “I love taking pictures ever since I was a kid. But there’s more to taking pictures than a click of a button. To get technically, what you see in a photograph is a combination of the photographer’s emotion, aesthetic sense and visual skill in evaluating form, color, and content. I enjoy photographing in different genres from lifestyle to nightscapes. Professionally, I started shooting models (on modelmayhem in 2008) for their portfolio, but as time progressed I expanded into other styles that allowed me to carry my experiences and knowledge from one discipline to another.
