M. Akbar Khan is an International Civil Servant with 17 years of expertise in International Development and Multilateral Corporation and shaping Foreign Relations in areas of Trade & investment, Economic growth, Political and Security apparatus in about 40 Countries across the Middle East and North Africa, South & Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and America. Over the years, Khan’s contributions have been significantly dedicated to various Governments and International Organizations such as the U.N. and Multilateral Banks aimed at achieving SDGs, National and Regional Priorities, strengthening Foreign Relations and establishing multilateral Partnerships with an objective to enhance Foreign Trade, Private Sector development, Industrial transformation, Technology, inclusive growth, Public Policy reform, and ensuring Monetary funding to Member States, Businesses and Industry partners. In early years (2007-08), Khan had the honor to serve under the former U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, (the current U.N. Secretary General), to facilitate the Tripartite negotiations with Iran, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan in resolving Regional Refugee Crisis and dealing with its socioeconomic and security impact in the region. In 2009-11, Khan’s appointment as Senior Regional Coordinator with UNODC Vienna, contributed to the NATO-Russia Council Project that led to improved Industrial and Security cooperation in Central and South Asia. The initiative was aimed at a comprehensive partnership framework led by the U.N against Countering Narcotics by fostering Economic and Security cooperation. Furthermore, Khan’s appointment with UNDP in 2012-17, as Head/Manager of Programme, promoted initiatives towards Private sector Development and Public Policy reforms in selected countries. Embarking over a higher and more diverse multi-sectoral approach, Khan further instrumented his abilities and diversified expertise by entering the Consulting arena predominantly in Africa and the Middle East . Khan’s engagement as a Senior Independent Consultant with projects funded by MDBs, UN Agencies, and Corporates has been crucial in sectors such as Trade, Energy, Climate & environment, Infra, Education, Pharma, Industrial growth/SMEs and other areas.
