For my Teach for America (TFA) service, I moved to the DC area to instruct ~250 students in Math 8, lead team duties amid staff shortages, and collaborate with veteran teachers to determine strategies for student achievement. As Engagement & Technology Lead, I led the adoption of learning platforms and classroom technologies by designing and facilitating engagement workshops for staff.My professional development in pedagogy, classroom culture practices, and curricular design continued through PGCPS and TFA coaching sessions, the TFA Summer Institute ‘21, and AVID National Conference ‘22. Per the Framework for Teaching (FFT), I was rated an “Effective” Title I teacher both years.

During the pandemic, I explored online learning efforts by tutoring K-8 students in graphic design, web design, and art skills. With this track record, I was able to support the introduction of design thinking methods into the "Gadgets and Wearables II" curriculum, creating 10 lesson plans and related materials for the 2021 summer camps.

Austin, Texas, United States

In the UT Austin Studio, I maintained standards for the design process by overseeing project leads and leading instructional sessions on different skills: soliciting, interviewing, ideating, and co-creating. I also led the Austin branch of a nation-wide project focused on lifeguard recruitment and retention, coordinating with DFA National, Texas studio leadership, industry mentors, the YMCA Austin, and lifeguard stakeholders.DFA is a national network of college students and innovators using design for social impact. Now on 41 campuses and engaging 1,100 students and 3,500 alumni, DFA is a 2018 winner of a Cooper Hewitt National Design Award recognized for its ability to educate optimistic designers at a global scale.

Tbilisi, Georgia

In Fall 2018, my team of four researchers instituted a project by securing and managing a $25,000 budget under the President’s Award for Global Learning. We proceeded to uncover how Georgia (the country, not the state) halved its maternal mortality rate in just two years by interviewing 50+ Georgian mothers, transcribing for sentiment analysis, running a nation-wide survey, and touring hospitals and clinics. I contextualized social determinants of health related to our study by photographing differences in urban and rural environments in Georgia.

Brownsville, Texas, United States

During my first two summers of undergraduate study, I helped close an opportunity gap by co-designing and teaching reading, then U.S. Government enrichment lessons for a "Summer Odyssey" camp targeting learning loss among disadvantaged 8th grade students. By introducing logic education, I helped improve reading comprehension by half a year’s worth of progress in just six weeks, as measured by entrance/exit tests. These were formative summers in which I became deeply invested in the promotion of equity in education.
