After an amazing and fulfilling career in Drug Discovery spanning 30 years at Merck, Xenon, Inception Sciences and Chinook Therapeutics, I've decided to retire. I've had the the privilege to work with the best in the business and I thank them all for being such knowledgeable, collaborative and thoughtful colleagues. I look forward to following their successes, this time from the sidelines

Inception Sciences Canada is a small molecule drug discovery company. Our focus is creating high-value therapies with transformative potential to address diseases and disorders with significant unmet need. Through partnerships with academic experts, we are translating biological insights into first-in-class drugs.

Led Cell and Molecular Biology, Electrophysiology and Genetics groups.Group worked to identify and validate new dyslipidemia targets using human genetic approaches. Biology co-leader (with Pharma partner) on drug discovery project for novel dislipidemia target.

Drug discovery program experience in asthma, inflammatory diseases, osteoporosis, neuropathic pain, hypertension and anti-virals.Led a group working to identify new therapeutic targets for hypertension. Proposed numerous new targets for hypertension and pain and led their progression through target validation using pharmacological tools, ASO and knockout mouse phenotyping. Participated in the evaluation of new internal hypertension and cardiovascular disease drug targets and from external licensing opportunities. Biology Program Team Lead on cathepsin K, renin, HIV integrase Lead Op drug discovery programs. Responsible for setting strategy and guiding the progress of these programs. Prepared documents for regulatory authorities.Led teams involved in the development of HTS assays for numerous enzyme drug targets and the follow up of hit molecules to identify lead compounds suitable for Med Chem programs. Bench biochemist working on enzymology, protein biochemistry and assay development for lipoxygenase, cyclooxygenase, phosphodiesterase-4, Prostaglandin E Synthase-2 and cathepsin K programs.Responsible for the supervising and mentoring the scientific and career progress of teams of up to 16 scientists. Played active role in recruiting many M.Sc. and Ph.D.-prepared scientists.
