Hello! My name is Marcus Lorensen and I am a PhD student at the Dept. of Pharmacy at University of Copenhagen (UCPH).During my PhD, I will investigate interesting and exiting plants for their abilities to synthesize compounds with medical properties. This will be done by an analytical technique known as mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), which not only includes detection of compounds but also histological data of the spatial localization of compounds.Between 2013-2018 I was studying biotechnology at UCPH, which was concluded October (2018) with the defense of my Master thesis: Mutagenesis and characterization of a fungal lipase. During the project I got to work with all the steps it takes to enzyme variants: Introducing mutations in DNA coding for the enzyme, expressing the mutated genes in a suitable host, purification of enzyme, and characterization of the enzyme activity and stability. The project was made in a collaboration with Novozymes, at the department of Lipid stain removal, and the University of Copenhagen with Lone Baunsgaard as main supervisor. In my time of studying at UCPH, I have been focusing on mainly on biochemistry, genetics and microbiology. For a semester I was studying abroad at the University of Victoria (UVic), where I studied plant metabolism and genetic related diseases.
