Cropping Systems AgronomistCimmyt Apr 2012 - Dec 2014Barisal, BangladeshSustainable intensification of post-rainy season fallow lands in the tidally flooded south-central Bangladesh though high value Rabi crops following short duration T.aman rice and application of small scale farm machinery such as bed planter, seeder, axial flow pump, multi-crop reaper and maize shller.A robust Hands-on training and farmers field school were organized to train the farmers, lead farmers and local service providers and linked to seed and machinery farm/company to make the input delivery route live. For getting better service and price of products value chain analysis was done and connected to interested companies particularly for maize. Maize and soybean commercialization was successfully done along with introduction of energy efficient axial flow pump for surface irrigation instead of traditional centrifugal diesel run pumps. Eco-system based planning was done and it was predicted that through intensification of Rabi cropping and by using farm machinery rural farmers production, income and nutrition could be improved markedly along with creation of new jobs and business opportunity. -
