At the Netherlands eScience Center I coordinate our internal open science strategy and activities as well as contribute to national and international open science initiatives and developments. Since 2021, I am also team lead of the Research Software Directory, an open science platform showcasing digital tools for research. I work closely with the Digital Competence Centers of the Dutch Universities, and have an active role in various networks and working groups, including LCRDM, RDA, ReSA, CoARA, the Netherlands Reproducibility Network, and Open Science NL.

At the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences I coordinated the KNAW Grant Office, providing support to researchers of the KNAW’s 13 institutes, and organising training events, e.g. on research data management. I also represented the KNAW in national and European research policy networks (VSNU) and consultation groups (RVO Horizon Europe Research Infrastructures). Furthermore, I analysed data on the performance of the KNAW’s 13 research institutes to inform internal strategy.

DANS, the Netherlands institute for permanent access to digital research resources, is an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). My work at DANS included project management of several large-scale European projects on open data and digital innovation for research, with international teams up to 30 members. I also developed and executed the global communication strategy for a three-year European project, including the coordination of 50+ presentations, workshops and events in 20 countries. Furthermore, I was responsible for the development of national and international projects in the field of open research data, including forming consortia, designing project plans, and the acquisition of project funding. I developed policies, digital tools and gave training around open data for research.

Ecological genetics of recent range expansion of the UK Brown Argus butterfly in response to climate change

EC-funded project on ecological genetics in response to climate change, including large-scale field experiments, collecting large genetic and ecological data sets, performing bioinformatics analyses with genomic data, and statistical analyses with experimental, genetic and climate data. Teaching and supervising MSc students and fieldwork volunteers. Published several peer-reviewed scientific papers.

Postdoc position in ERC-funded project on ecological genomics, including large-scale field experiments over several years, collection of large data sets through field and laboratory experiments, statistical analyses of experimental, genetic and climate data, bioinformatics analyses for genome annotation. Teaching MSc courses and supervising teams of fieldwork volunteers. Published several peer-reviewed scientific papers.

PhD project in Evolutionary Biology and Ecology, focusing on adaption to climate. This project including collecting butterflies in East and South Africa (5 countries), and simultaneous supervision of field assistants in different countries. I carried out ecological and physiological experiments, genetic laboratory work, and performed statistical analyses. Published several peer-reviewed scientific papers.
