Profile bio

About Dr. Mohamed Ali Al-Badri

I am a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Nucleome Therapeutics, where I lead the development and deployment of advanced machine learning models, including large language models (LLMs), to support drug discovery and genomics research. My role involves managing the entire lifecycle of ML models from training to deployment, particularly within our MLOps framework, to ensure robust and scalable solutions. With expertise in AI for genomics, I work on decoding the 'dark matter' of the human genome using 3D genomics and advanced machine learning techniques. These efforts contribute to uncovering new insights into complex genetic data, furthering our understanding and treatment of disease.Previously, I was a Research Fellow in Statistical Systems Biology at UCL, where I developed explainable deep learning models to extract mutational signatures from large cancer genomic datasets. My academic background includes a PhD in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from King's College London, where I also obtained an undergraduate degree in Physics with Theoretical Physics and an Associateship in Philosophy and Ethical Studies.During my time at UCL, I also served as a Genomics Research Scientist at Seattle based biotech start up Phase Genomics. There, I developed a computational pipeline for the automated identification and classification of chromosomal abnormalities using chromosome conformation capture samples. During my PhD, I worked as a Research Software Engineer at The Alan Turing Institute, contributing to a high-performance computing workflow that integrated novel statistical designs of computer experiments.Recently, my work has focused on leveraging LLMs and tools such as LangChain to enhance our machine learning capabilities. This includes efforts to integrate these models into various applications, optimise them for performance, and ensure their smooth deployment across different platforms. My core competencies include Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Cancer Genomics, Research Computing, and Large Language Models. I am passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and diversity, and I strive to bring these perspectives to every project I undertake. I aim to apply my skills and knowledge to solve complex and impactful problems at the intersection of genomics, biomedicine, and machine learning.
