Working with scientists to understand desired, new capabilities and with lead developers to design new software tools using knowledge of medical imaging, mathematics, and programming. I am tasked with adapting these algorithms and scripts to fit calibration needs for the data types found in oncology, such as CT, PET, SPECT, MRI, and Gamma Counting. Independently, I lead the validation of newly developed software to ensure audit logging and version control capabilities align with the compliant environment used to analyze clinical trial data. Other duties include educating analysis teams and scientists on utilizing new tools and workflows, editing or creating SOPs, and guiding internal development tasks.

The overarching goal of this work was to optimize the computational analysis utilized to categorize tissue types in our lab, CompuMAINE, which was successfully completed. The future goals of this technology are to be implemented for radiologists to use as an extra tool in the early screening and detection of breast lesions, tumorous or not. During my senior year of undergrad, I started to research with CompuMaine, attend weekly lab meetings, go to 1:1 meetings with my advisor, and enroll in certain classes that would count towards my Master's degree.

During my junior year at UMaine, I became interested in CompuMaine's approach to applying computational methods to medical images after taking a course (BEN 498: Medical and Image Analysis I) with the lab director. During this course, I gained an immense knowledge of the mathematics behind fractals, various statistical models, and methods of image analysis. Deploying this knowledge in this class, I became very interested in learning more about Khalil's research and was lucky enough to join the lab. I started by learning in-depth about the wavelet transform modulus maxima method in a sub-group of the lab, attended lab meetings, and became inspired to conduct breast cancer research to gain my Master's degree.
