Maarten van Eden is presently an independent consultant in the area of investment management, finance, risk and governance.Maarten van Eden was chief financial officer (CFO) of the nationalised Anglo Irish Bank in Dublin in the period 2010 - 2011. As part of a small new senior management team, he was responsible for the stabilisation and restructuring of the organisation.Previously, he was head of capital management at ING Group from November 2005 until end March 2009. In this capacity, reporting to the CFO, he was responsible for the corporate treasury of the group holding company, the bank and the insurance company, capital planning and acquisitions and divestments.After spending two years as a communications officer in the Royal Netherlands Navy and four years at university, he started his career at the Dutch Ministry of Finance in 1980 in the General Treasury.Maarten moved to investment banking in London in 1984, starting as a derivatives trader at Orion Royal Bank. After selling to central banks at Swiss Bank Corporation he moved to J.P. Morgan Securities in 1989. There he structured private placements before moving in 1991 to the syndicate desk, responsible for the fixed income new issue underwriting business in Europe, and eventually heading it. Maarten was co-head of fixed income and derivatives sales at HSBC Markets in London, before re-joining J.P. Morgan Investment Management in 1997 where he became head of the European institutional client group. Before joining ING in 2005, he worked for Paloma Partners, a hedge fund based in Greenwich, Connecticut.Maarten is a keen sailor and enjoys reading history. He has travelled extensively and between jobs lived in Tunisia and Venezuela. Maarten is internationally mobile and speaks Dutch, English and French more or less fluently and German and Spanish moderately well.
