During my years as a student I started a IT consultancy company and a related computer web-shop. The core values of the business were simplicity and reliability.Having my own business was a great way to put the theoretical knowledge from the BA studies into practice.

The increasing use of the Dutch road infrastructure is a primary cause of the growing congestion problem, as well as environmental and social problems in the Netherlands. To challenge the congestion problem the Dutch government considered a new form of Road User Charging (RUC) to manage congestion on the Dutch road infrastructure.While the Dutch government started with the development of the RUC scheme, based on Electronic Fee Collection (EFC) the European regarding Commission initiated harmonizing activities EFC systems in Europe and established the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS).As part of my internship I analyzed and identified the most important stakeholders and factors that influence the harmonization process of EFC in Europe. What can be expected as a result from the harmonization activities? How will the Dutch EFC system be affected by this? And when necessary, how should the Netherlands act accordingly?During my internship I was involved in several European meetings, allowing me to interact with people of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. This was not only a challenging and valuable experience, it also opened my eyes to the world and further stimulated my interest in working abroad and with other cultures.
