SME ACCELERATOR | BANKING CONSULTANT | AGRIFINANCE SPECIALIST | I believe that every successful entrepreneur is an artist. Entrepreneurship is about creation. Transforming an idea into a visible, tangible reality. Is there anything more satisfying than helping to create a meaningful entity?A few words about me. What I am passionate about is building sustainable and profitable businesses. And in my opinion this can only be done through a combination of operational excellence and total customer centered thinking. For several years I was immersed in developing, building and expanding FACTS as East Africa’s premier Supply Chain Finance company – engaging with hundreds of SMEs in need of working capital to grow their business. But only a fraction would meet reasonable criteria of bankability. To support FACTS in finding viable and scalable clients, we created the IGNITE MY SME initiative. Growth through excellence! Engaging entrepreneurs and forcing them to look in the mirror. Inspiring and actually helping them to go the extra mile towards accessing finance. And building on those experiences, leading the KIEP 250+ programme added another dimension. This time providing technical assistance to larger SMEs, helping them on their journey towards scale, additional capital and international competitiveness. How did I get to this point?Over the years, my career has rotated between banking, direct marketing, consulting and investing. I have been CEO or Director at large Corporates, and I have managed programmes in far more humble settings. I find it easy to move between strategic thinking and hands-on execution. Leading from the front - building strong teams to move the organization forwards. My work has taken me to Europe, Asia Pacific, North- and South America and Africa. Each continent has contributed in specific and unique ways to my views on life, work, leadership and human motivation. The red line throughout my career is authenticity, challenge and impact. For me, the journey is the reward.Specialties: SME Acceleration, Banking, Agri-finance, Management, Team building

Managing Director (Co-Founder)Facts Africa Oct 2015 - Dec 2018NairobiFACTS is a new finance company predominantly focused on the Food & Agriculture Sector. We operate through two fully licensed entities in Kenya and Uganda, and expect to start operations in Tanzania in Q1/2019. Our products are designed around a range of Supply Chain Finance solutions, and we are dead set about establishing ourselves as market leader in this field in East Africa. FACTS believes the agriculture sector is severely under-financed and is positioning itself to become a catalyst of change. Scores of Missing Middle processors see their growth prospects severely limited due to the inability to access finance. This must change and this can change. Over time we expect to move beyond the agriculture sector and start offering Supply Chain Finance based working capital to SMEs enaged in healthcare, manufacturing and sustainable energy. -

Agrifinancing (U) Programme ManagerFinancial Access Capital Partners Oct 2014 - Dec 2017KampalaBased on the success and experiences gained with F4A in Kenya, we have been invited to start a 2nd programme in Uganda, this time in partnership with SNV. The mission remains the same: stimulating (and where possible accellerating) the financing of Food and Agriculture, which represent the largest economic sector(s) in Africa but are often ignored by financial institutions. For us it's straightforward. ... Farming Means Business. -
F4A (Kenya) Programme ManagerFinancial Access Capital Partners Jan 2013 - Sep 2016NairobiF4A is a USD 10 mln Dutch PPP aimed at accelerating development of the Kenya Agri-sector through rapidly improved access to finance across multiple value chains. The programme is co-sponsored by the Netherlands Embassy, will run for three years, and is comprised of 12 individual projects.More of the same is not an approach we believe in. The majority of our projects push the envelop, and are based on fresh (out-of-the-box) thinking. What they have in common is our irrevocable believe in a market-led, sustainable and above all commercial Agricultural Sector. This philosophy is embedded in our motto: Farming Means Business. -

Co-FounderBasefund Feb 2008 - Jul 2012Amersfoort, NetherlandsBaseFund invests in, and supports, Dutch businesses that actively target BoP markets to sell products and services that benefit the poorest segments of the population. Aiming for reasonable profit levels is a precondition for developing sustainable businesses, and will ultimately lead to a win/win situation for all actors in the value chain. For personal reasons (my co-founder encountered health problems) we had to put the establishment of the fund itself on hold, but continue to pursue related opportunities.
