About Maarten Van Der Velde
I am an applied cognitive scientist and data scientist. I like developing computational models to better understand the mind, and exploring how we can use these models to address real-world problems.I currently work on adaptive learning systems: digital educational tools that use principles from cognitive science and AI to adapt the learning experience to the individual learner.My recent projects include:- Predicting learners' performance on new materials to make learning more efficient- Assessing the benefits of adaptive learning during a pandemic as well as in normal times- Disentangling the cognitive factors that contribute to performance on memory retrieval tasks- Modelling forgetting across timescalesSee more at maartenvandervelde.com
