It all began back in 2015, when I held the camera that changed my life. It wasn’t a golden camera; just a good old rusty DSLR found in the back of a closet. To a regular child, it might have just been a cool gadget, but something sparked in me that day. Damn, perhaps this was what I wanted to do in the future. But what did a 15 year old teenager know about life? When I was 16, I became the Vice President of photography in my New Media Club. I did event coverage for the school, and I taught new members all about photography and the beauty of it. I loved photography, even pushing myself for more opportunities beyond the school through volunteering organisations, such as Youth Corps and REACH Community Services. But I wanted more. I was curious, eager to learn new knowledge that could expand my horizons beyond photography.When I was 17, I pursued a Mass Communication diploma under Ngee Ann Polytechnic. A media buffet for a curious soul, it was exactly what I seeked. I learned and developed hard skills such as Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator and more, alongside soft skills such as teamwork through various projects, and honing adaptability to each unique case study. When I was 19, it was time to put my skills to the test. I had my first internship with GERMS digital as an Account Servicing Intern. I was exposed to experiences that I could not get in school – learning how to communicate with clients, how to brainstorm with the team, and how the feedback of assets work. I graduated with a diploma in Mass Communication with Merit, leaving with skills such as UX/UI, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML/CSS to support my endeavours further into the media. Now, I’m 21. I continue to develop my skills in Wee Kim Wee, School of Communication and Information in Nanyang Technological University. I am constantly learning, developing and reflecting through my current internship with Samaritans of Singapore.
