I’m a currently a fourth year medical student working to develop and strengthen my skills to become a practicing physician in 2024. My expertise and past opportunities include infectious disease, disaster medicine, and surgery. Currently, I’m serving on clinical rotations practicing General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, and Family Medicine.In the future, I intend to pursue a career in medicine as a physician serving the most underserved communities. In order to effectively pursue my passion to provide comprehensive healthcare, I believe I need to intervene on two levels. Those levels are at the individual and population level. Individually through patient care and population/public health through evidence-based medicine - research. I believe that merging two disciplines such as public health and medicine can work in successfully managing, reducing, and eliminating both infectious diseases and chronic illnesses globally.During my undergraduate and graduate career, I spent most of my time as a leader both on and off my campus community. One of the positions I held was as a teaching assistant to college & post-bac students in Human anatomy at SFSU. It is in this capacity that I discovered my passion for learning, desire for knowledge, teaching, and ultimately, my interest in medicine. It was during open laboratory sessions when I gained the opportunity to teach my students the complex areas of the human body/systems that I realized the journey I wanted to pursue. In this position, I imagined myself as a physician in which I'd be able to explain complex information directly to my patients, while also building an important and trusting relationship with them. I can honestly say that taking this role made a significant impact on my life and my perception to create a larger impact in my community. This experience, though not the only factor, significantly influenced my decision to pursue my journey to attain my own medical education. In this way, I can uplift my community by spreading accurate, trustable medical knowledge that can ultimately save many many lives of underserved people.
