I have been a professional journalist and editor for 40 years, with experience in newspapers and publishing. Since 1997, I've been on staff at The Boston Globe, where I have been a copy editor, layout editor, production editor, editorial design supervisor, and, since 2006, letters editor for the Opinion section. In this role, I read hundreds of readers’ submissions per week and am responsible for exercising editorial judgment in selecting, curating, editing, fact-checking, and producing content for publication, including headline writing, photo selection, and preparation for the web.In March 2020, during the early days of COVID-19, I helped launch and oversaw the blog "Postcards from the Pandemic," which collected readers’ submissions on how they were coping. I have also written opinion pieces and essays for the Globe, in addition to previous freelance writing work that included movie, music, concert, and book reviews and profiles of personalities in the arts.
