My father doesn’t know that I am writing this. If he did he would delete it with no hesitation. I am Joel Barnes 18 years old. Have you ever seen the look on your father’s face, the one where you know he is doing all he can to help? I saw that look last night. Its almost as if the look said, “My light of hope is almost burned out.” I happen to catch a glance at my father’s computer, and I saw another one of the countless emails saying, “You are not qualified for this position. Best wishes on your job hunt.” These are the words that were said to the man that I look up to. My father, a man of honor. A man who looked up to and looked after the veterans while he was in the military. The man who taught me always tell the truth, even if it leads to your dismissal. The man also taught me, “Love your God, love your family, love your country, and work as hard as you can.” These are the values that he instilled in me. How is it that my father can have all these great qualities and not qualify for a job? I’m only 18 years old and I don’t understand.I can only hope to be half the man my father is. His struggle motivates me to go to collage, study hard, become an HR manager so that when I see the resume’ of a person that reminds me of my father, I can say “I have a job for you.” And that father can go home with his head held high, and his son, daughter, or wife will never have to see that look that says, “My light of hope is almost burned out.”If my father knew I sent this letter, he would snap. But I do so with the hope that someone will step up to the plate as I plan to do in the future. P.S. Just think about it. Joel Barnes
