Engaged in the private practice of law in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mr. Finlayson’s practice emphasizes commercial litigation, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy law. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in the defense of guarantors of student loans in adversary proceedings seeking to discharge those student loans in bankruptcy. He received his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Drury College and his J.D. degree from the University of Tulsa. Mr. Finlayson is licensed to practice before the courts of the State of Oklahoma, the federal district and bankruptcy courts of Oklahoma, Northern District of Texas and Arkansas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He is board certified by the American Board of Certification, was a Director (2004 - 2014), Director Emeritus (2016 - Present) and Officer of that organization (including 2013, President, 2014, Chair), and is one of only three “triple-certified” attorneys in the United States in Creditors’ Rights Law, Business and Consumer Bankruptcy Law. He has also been conferred the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Mr. Finlayson is a member of the Tulsa County and Oklahoma Bar Associations and their respective Bankruptcy and Reorganization Sections, the American Bar Association, its Section of Business Law, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, is past-President and served three terms as Vice-President of the Tulsa Area Chapter of Certified Fraud Examiners.
