Dr. Tyler MacCready is the Founder & CEO of Apium Swarm Robotics, a Los Angeles based company offering a new approach to system coordination and management that enables exceedingly large number of autonomous vehicles to carry out common goals. Apium's technology provides safety, security, efficiency and power to a wide range of automatable functions. Dr. MacCready is a former engineering technician and consulting scientist for Aerovironment, and a longtime innovator and inventor. Over the years, Dr. MacCready has worked on the development of a variety of innovative vehicles including submerged solar-powered water drones for distributed applications, the human-powered Gossamer Condor aircraft, the Solar Challenger airplane, the SunRaycer solar car, and the QN flying pterodactyl replica.Dr. MacCready received his BA at Yale, his MSc at University of Wyoming, and his PhD at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. As the Founder and CEO of Ocean Lab, Dr. MacCready developed a low-cost marine drone for the purposes of monitoring and addressing chemical imbalances in the coastal waters of California, which led to his passionate pursuit of a scalable swarming solution. Prior inventions include the Walkalong Glider, featured on the PBS show Scientific American Frontiers.Dr. MacCready is an expert and a frequent speaker on the development of the Swarm Robotics Industry, Swarm Intelligence, and Sustainable Aviation.
