    Us
Cloudpic is a multi-national, venture-backed startup developing software and technology for use in digital content production in the media and entertainment industry. The company also provides expert consulting services to production studios across the globe.Key applications developed: - peer-to-peer encrypted revision controlled filesystem (Droplet) - peer-to-peer direct file transfer application (ZIF!) - cloud based software distribution and licensing system; allow any application to use a subscription model for software licensing. • Chang Industry
    Engineer
    Chang Industry 2007 - 2008
Chang Industry was a company founded by my uncle Dr. Yu-Wen Chang to solve engineering challenges for militaries and governments. I worked here for a short time, primarily working on a long-range WIFI mesh network used to transmit video for multiple projects including the SkySeer UAV. I also spent time reviewing the company's patent portfolio to assist in determining the commercial viability of the intellectual property.
  • Voter'S Choice
    Co-Founder
    Voter'S Choice 2007 - 2008
Voter's Choice was a company formed to create an e-voting solution that gives you all the advantages, without the inherent risks associated with electronic voting. We designed an easily verifiable solution that was very simple and required almost no advanced technology.Unfortunately, to develop it further, we required a significant amount of funding and expertise that we didn't have. We then decided to shelve the idea and move on.
  • Dreamworks Animation
    Head Of Global Pipeline
    Dreamworks Animation 2003 - 2007
    Glendale, Ca, Us
DreamWorks Animation is one of the world's foremost animation studios. I had the opportunity to rejoin DWA in the fall of 2003 as the Head of Global Pipeline reporting directly to the Head of Production. One of my initial responsibilities was to facilitate the studio's goal of "Unification". Helping bring the Redwood City studio (PDI) and Glendale studio (DWA) onto the same production pipeline. At the time, PDI was on an almost exclusively proprietary software pipeline, while DWA was almost exclusively 3rd party software. This process would take multiple years, and required solving both technical, as well as cultural challenges.Later, we formed a division called Production Technology that was run by Andy Hendrickson. I was one of 3 department heads and was responsible for the largest group - the Department Technical Directors. I oversaw approximately 60 TDs, of which 7 were Lead/Supervising TDs responsible for the pipeline for an individual project. As the department increased in size, I took on more responsibilities in directly handling contract negotiations, budgets and personnel matters. The department was unique in that it truly spanned the intersection of production and technology by having technical staff directly assigned to (and paid for by) individual films. Every film's production department were assigned Technical Directors who were responsible for integrating that department's work into the overall larger production pipeline.During my time as Head of Global Pipeline, I helped on such films as: Shark Tale, Madagascar, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away, Shrek the Third, Bee Movie, Kung Fu Panda and overseas TV work such as Father of the Pride.
  • Dreamworks Animation
    Consultant
    Dreamworks Animation 2003 - 2003
    Glendale, Ca, Us
I was hired as a consultant to assist in performing a technical assessment of an animation studio in Hong Kong to determine if they would be able to meet the requirements of DreamWorks Animation.I was responsible for evaluating details such as data center capacity, backup and disaster recover procedures, quality and efficiencies in the 2D and 3D production pipeline, and overall technical capabilities of the studio. The studio was ultimately engaged and produced the prime-time CG animated TV show - Father of the Pride. They later went on to produce their own full-length CG Animated films.
  • Pdi/Dreamworks
Lead Technical Director - Commercial And Feature Effects
    Pdi/Dreamworks 2000 - 2002
    Glendale, Ca, Us
The Commercial and Feature Effects (CAFE) division of PDI/DreamWorks was an approximately 60 person division focused on doing 2D and 3D effects work for TV, film and web projects. As the Lead Technical Director for CAFE, I was the point technical contact between the division and the rest of the studio. I was unique in that with my Systems Administration background, I also ended up being the initial point of contact for computer/network issues.I had weekly meetings with R&D over software needs, worked hand-in-hand with the Production Manager for staffing requirements, was in direct contact with the CFO over software and hardware purchasing, and would be involved in all projects that the division was working on. Additionally I had to be aware of what Feature Animation was doing, and worked closely with them in allocating studio-wide resources.I supervised a team of Job Technical Directories and Production Engineers who would be assigned to individual projects, while I was responsible for overall strategic technical direction for the division,
  • Pdi/Dreamworks
Job Technical Director - Commercial And Feature Effects
    Pdi/Dreamworks 1999 - 2000
    Glendale, Ca, Us
I worked on the ANTZ segment of the IMAX film Cyberworld-3D. I helped provide technical support to artists and was responsible for animating the ant antennae that were originally off frame, but were now seen due to the larger IMAX format.I also worked on a real-time, interactive demo of the Sony GScube that was shown at SIGGRAPH 2000. We took the bar-room fight scene from the film ANTZ and adapted the 3D elements into a format that the GScube could render. There's a video of the GScube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB0-EvK9Y7U . You can see a quick image of me at the 4:38 mark and some video of the ANTZ sequence at the 8:30 mark.
  • Pacific Data Images (Pdi)
    Systems Administrator
    Pacific Data Images (Pdi) 1995 - 1997
    Glendale, Ca, Us
My first job in production.I got to be part of the rapid growth of PDI as it went from only working on TV commercials and Film effects, to embarking on it's first full-length CG animated film (ANTZ).Saw almost 300% staffing growth in the company, and as a systems administrator was involved multiple challenges such as: constant network expansion, new computer systems, and an ever increasing larger numbers of users. During this time, I became friends with the night security guard, and even had a pillow for under my desk.
  • Xmission
Systems Administrator / Tech Staff / Web
    Xmission 1993 - 1995
    Salt Lake City, Ut, Us

I learned customer service skills as well as how to be a professional. This was an excellent first job, as I was able to see and experience the early Internet boom first hand.
