I work in the engineering field. I remember my grandfather using engineering tools such as levers and pulleys when we would work in his barn. I could do the work in half the time but with those engineering tools, we could do the work with half the effort. He inspired me to work smart and not hard which led to me being an engineer.I perform special inspections for clients which includes construction materials testing and engineering for industrial and commercial clients. I consult with engineering clients to develop better quality roadways on transportation projects in north Alabama. The following are some projects that I have been involved in:1) Hexcel (new product line)- This project in Decatur, AL was constructed over a dredge fill and vibro piers (rammed aggregate piers) were used for the foundation system. As project manager, I observed the foundation and concrete construction, as well as the structural steel construction. Our Decatur office provided the required special inspections (IBC Chapter 17) for this project to submit to the City of Decatur to fulfill the requirements of the Building Department. 2)Avalon Avenue Widening - This project in Muscle Shoals was constructed while maintaining traffic for businesses and a school system. This roadway was widened from 2-lane to 4-lane. Unsuitable soils (determined by TTL during geotechnical investigation) were removed and geotextile fabric was placed as a subgrade stabilizing layer, prior to placing the pavement section. TTL performed earthwork, base, and concrete CE&I services for the project.3)North Alabama Medical Center - This project located in Florence is a statically loaded and steel frame construction project to provide more than 200 hospital beds for the region. This structure has over 400 individual spread footings and more than 30 moment grade beams. TTL is providing the construction materials testing and special inspections required by the IBC Chapter 17 Special Inspections.
