I graduated from Portland State University in June 2016 with an undergraduate degree in public health. After completing school, I had the privilege of working at the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) as an AmeriCorps VISTA working to eliminate language access barriers in Oregon. After finishing my AmeriCorps internship, I was offered an administrative role supporting the Health Care Interpreter and Traditional Health Worker programs at OHA. As I continued my time at OHA, an opportunity to work with an adult with autism fell into my lap. Inspired by my public health background, I began working with a client with autism in 2017 as a Personal Support Worker (PSW). This experience changed my life, my public health background paired with my newfound passion to serve autistic clients in Oregon have been combined to allow me to address the social determinates of health by empowering families to use behavioral strategies and public health resources for the betterment of their families. I am now working as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in the Portland Metro area, my role includes: conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), developing new programs as well as monitoring and modifying current programming, supporting behavior technicians by providing on-going training, coaching, and performance evaluations, as well as, producing progress reports and treatment plans to meet the requirements and submission timelines of regulatory agencies and funding sources.My long term career goal is to work to eliminate barriers for adults on the spectrum in Oregon, as there are currently limited resources available to adults on the spectrum.
