About Mackenzie Brown
Mackenzie Brown is a First Nations Cree woman from the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, currently residing in Mohkinstsis, Calgary in Treaty 7 territory and Métis district 5&6. She is a performer, drummer, tourism entrepreneur, philanthropist and advocate for at-risk youth. Mackenzie and her mother perform as “Warrior Women”. They drum and teach around Alberta for the Northern Alberta Teachers Conference, the annual Jasper Dark Skies Festival, Youth Dream Catchers Conference, Canada Day, Indigenous Day festivities, and International Women’s Day. In the summer you can find Mackenzie in Jasper performing at Jasper Park Lodge, Parks Canada, Rocky Mountaineer and various other events. Mackenzie is also an avid acrylic and mural artist, her paintings often depicting aspects of her culture infused with vibrant colors. Her art has been featured at the Pump House Gallery 2017, the Edson Gallery Museum 2018, the Gray Gallery Grant MacEwan Faculty of Health and Community Studies Art Showcase 2017/18, recognized in the Alberta Indian Arts and Crafts award of 2017, featured for the Alberta Business Competition 2017 and sold to people travelling world wide.Mackenzie has been recognized in her community for her community service and volunteer work through awards such as the Arts of Fire Outstanding Youth Artist 2013, Premiers Citizenship Award 2013, Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Citizenship Award 2014. She is the recent recipient of the 2019 Esquao Award for Children's Future, 2019 Indigenous Woman of the year from the Alberta Assembly of First Nations and Top 30 under 30 From Alberta Corporation for Global Cooperation 2020 and the Distinguished Alumni Award Grant MacEwan 2022. Mackenzie was also recently highlighted as the only Indigenous and Albertan artist on the reality TV show Landscape Artist of the Year Canada where she placed in the top 3 finalists.

Warrior Women is composed of Matricia Brown and Mackenzie Brown. A dynamic mother daughter duo whose haunting melodies and harmonious song writing will give you an experience of a lifetime. Warrior Women write a perform songs written in both English and their native tongue, Cree. Matricia and Mackenzie offer performances ranging from educational performances in schools with children and youth, to traditional crafting classes, to relaxing atmospheric drumming shows offered to people of all ages. Warrior Women was founded 15 years ago. Since the creation of Warrior Women, Matricia and Mackenzie have traveled around Alberta, drumming, singing and educating the population on First Nations culture, traditions and crafts. Warrior Women has performed for Canada Day celebrations in Edson, Aboriginal Day in Jasper and Edson, performed at schools in Spruce Grove, Edmonton, Jasper, Edson, Hinton and many more places. Currently the members of Warrior Women are residing in Jasper where they perform for Parks Canada Rocky Mountaineer, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, as well as the Australian Pacific tour company for various tour groups at Jasper Park Lodge. Warrior Women does anything from drum making to big powwow drum experiences and Aboriginal awareness projects.
