The Thornton Alumni Legacy Fund is a charitable organization dedicated to strengthening the resources for Thornton Township High School. By raising donations from alumni and friends, TALF has not only provided funds for current struggling academic and extracurricular activities, but also started new programs geared towards post grad employment. I currently serve as the charity's event director for the annual Alumni Day and Hall of Fame Celebration, organizing and executing the event from start to finish. I secure vendors, negotiate contracts, manage funds, and work closely with the school's administration and honorees. In addition to the event, I act as a marketing contributor by providing materials such as brochures, signage, and invitations as well as manage email marketing and donor/mailing lists. I also copy edit correspondence coming from the charity to its donors on the website, personal letters, and more. The goal is always to keep the message consistent and concise to attract new sponsors and keep current donors.

As banquet sales manager for Flossmoor Country Club, I was primarily responsible for booking, coordinating, and executing all events for the club’s private membership and the public. I worked on a variety of events, including weddings, tastings, charity galas, showers, golf invitationals, luncheons, and more. I was also in charge of developing new menus and promotional material to generate public business and stay on trend.

Although my title was Administrative Assistant, I was in charge of almost all of the communication projects and platforms for the country club. I assisted members and professionals in creating captivating promotional material. This included flyers, mass emails, maintaining social media platforms, and our quarterly newsletter. I also developed content for the website, maintained the member roster, and updated its calendar. In addition to communication projects, I also aided our events coordinator to make sure all member and club-hosted events went smoothly. I assisted in post-event correspondence, which included creating, distributing, and analyzing our electronic survey.

As a reporting intern, I covered the Wheeling and Prospect Heights beat, maintained via board meetings and public leads. I also conducted phone and in-person interviews to gain information for potential stories and features. I assisted in creating graphics/legends for stories, including my centerpiece on local flood issues. As part of my daily tasks, I utilized social media, including Twitter and Facebook, to connect with readers on current stories.

I utilized the basics of SEO editing in articles to bring traffic to the news website and increase exposure as a credible news organization. I also contributed to the seasonal print magazine by editing content overall and writing two features. After my internship was over, I continued to write for the print publication as needed as a freelance writer.
